IT'S TIME

Back in the days of old, it wasn't unusual to keep persons with disabilities away from the light of society. Families were ashamed to show family members with disabilities in public, they were subject to stay in a room alone, and sometimes locked away in an institution and forgotten. It was also thought persons with disabilities were unhealthy, different, fearful, and stupid. One should feel sorrow and pity for them, which in turn, formed the thoughts of the people outside of the family.

In today's society, sadly, nothing has changed except for not being ashamed from family, being amongst society, and residing in the "Independent Living Projects" within communities that has them. We still haven't gotten the acceptance from the social life and the work force within the communities we live in. Sure there is assistance for the disabled, and we get smiles from everyone we know and maybe from a stranger or two, then we go to our houses and they forget. This mentality is robbing us of our dreams of financial independence, our social life, and freedom.

In 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and now 2018. shockingly, traces of those characters from the 1950's and earlier are still acted out. It's long over due to break societies lack of understanding about the world of persons with disabilities.

Today, in the 21st century:

IT'S TIME

It's time to take our places in this country of the freedom in all aspect, and not be confused when we hear "The land of the free" or "All men are created equal"!

It's time to end having someone telling us what we can or can't do!

It's time to show that disabled doesn't mean unable!

And finally.....

It's time to make sure when someone who grew up "normally" with a disability, who works hard in school, and furthers their education, can have the same opportunities as their counter-part, who may be an "able-bodied" person, to have a chance at "The American Dream."

America is not a third world country, we are the most innovated and powerful country in the world, and the most civilized society. I challenge you to help and get to know us, and rise up to our level of thinking.

IT'S TIME!
